Riley Bohnert

Riley Bohnert is a 20-year-old professional pickleball player from Louisville, Kentucky, who has rapidly ascended the sport’s ranks with a compelling story of resilience and family support. 

Early Life and Introduction to Pickleball

Riley discovered pickleball at 15 during a challenging period in her life. Struggling with depression in her sophomore year of high school, she found solace and joy in the sport. Her father, Chris Bohnert, introduced her to the game, and they quickly became a formidable team. In their first tournament together in Indianapolis, they clinched a gold medal in doubles .  

Transition to Professional Pickleball

After a standout performance at the APP New York tournament, where she secured a bronze medal with Emily Ackrian, Riley made the pivotal decision to forgo college and pursue professional pickleball full-time. She joined the Association of Pickleball Players (APP) and later competed in the Professional Pickleball Association (PPA), marking her as one of the sport’s emerging stars .  

Achievements and Recognition

Riley’s accolades include: 

    •    Winning gold in the Women’s Pro Doubles division at the 2022 Indy APP Tournament with her mother. 

    •    Earning a silver medal at the 2023 APP U.S. Indoor Championships alongside veteran Simone Jardim. 

    •    Being named to Team USA for the inaugural APP Atlantic Cup in March 2024, the first international team competition in pickleball.

    •    Achieving a top-10 ranking in the APP Women’s Mixed Doubles division. 

    •    Representing the Goa Gladiators in the 2025 Indian Open, a significant event in the Global Sports Pickleball League . 

Family and Support System

Riley’s journey is deeply intertwined with her family’s involvement in the sport. Her father serves as her coach, while her mother competes alongside her in tournaments. The Bohnert family’s collective passion for pickleball has been instrumental in Riley’s development and success .
